PM Modi comes to Rajnath Singh's defence,

PM Modi comes to Rajnath Singh's defence, says reports against him and his son are 'plain lies'
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday issued a statement dubbing allegations leveled against the conduct of some Union Ministers, and the alleged misconduct of Home Minister Rajnath Singh's son Pankaj Singh as 'plain lies' and 'motivated'.

The PMO tweeted on the matter saying that the rumours were a 'malicious attempt at character assassination and tarnishing the image of the Government'.

"This has reference to reports appearing in a section of the media over the past several weeks, mentioning the Prime Minister, and referring to the conduct of some Union Ministers, and alleged misconduct of the Home Minister's son. The reports are plain lies, motivated and constitute a malicious attempt at character assassination and tarnishing the image of the Government. Those indulging in such rumour-mongering are damaging the interest of the nation," said the offical statement issued by the PMO.

Rajnath Singh earlier on Wednesday rejected reports about his son Pankaj Singh being denied a bypoll ticket due to corruption allegations. Singh said that such reports about him and his family are baseless.

Singh also said that he will quit politics if any such allegations against him or his family is found to be true.
